Philips Freevent X53

I have just been fixing a friends laptop, and it has been a slightly surreal experience. The Philips Freevent X53 has almost no results on Google, and NO record of it on the Philips website. Philips claim absolutely no knowledge of this product and offer no technical support. Worrying. Then I discovered on this site that this is actually not a Philips laptop at all, but a Dixons laptop with a philips badge on it.
Now Dixons who are a pretty awful company with a pretty awful reputation are not someone who people want to be dependent on for support. Knowing that they have set up another site with no reference to themselves called the tech guys which is the only place where you can find the system information and links to the drivers here.

I am never surprised at how awful Dixons are, but what are Philips playing at?
